Do you find yourself frustrated and impatient during the holidays? Easily annoyed even over the small things? Have a tendency to be short-tempered or react to others in anger? You may be irritated due to the increased demands of the holidays. Learn ways to relax and remain calm to overcome the irritability of the holiday blues.

What is the Holiday Blues Irritability?

Holiday blues irritability is feelings of annoyance, impatience, frustration, and even anger which increase during the holiday season. You are short-tempered and may even snap at others when things do not go according to what you planned or traditions. You feel irritated, despite celebrations and it being the most wonderful time of the year.   

The source of the irritation is an unmet need or expectation. You may be an over-giver or a people pleaser.  You rely on interactions or the response of others to define if a holiday event is joyful. Numerous disappointing holiday experiences resulted in unrealistic expectations. Change your perspective to remain calm. There is hope to overcome this irritation by practicing meekness and temperance. 

“But the fruit of the SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22 KJV

Signs of Holiday Blues Irritability

frustration

Upset or annoyed due to the unpredictability of holiday celebrations. 

agitation

Troubled or nervous due to overspending or people-pleasing.

restlessness

Unable to rest or relax as a result of over-thinking, anxiety or worry. 

EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION

Unpredictable mood changes, including crying or weeping.

ANGER

Frustration and irritability from unrealistic expectations. Possible emotional or physical outburst. 

aggression

Hostile attitude towards others, even confrontational.

Meekness and temperance are fruits of the HOLY SPIRIT. You are responsible for how you react to your feelings. Although you may feel overwhelmed or under increased pressure due to the holidays. Responding irrationally due to irritability is not a good idea. Practice remaining calm and relaxing with the fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT. Meekness and temperance are imperative during the holidays because these attributes will assist you with maintaining control of your emotions and interactions with others.

Extending yourself financially and emotionally in an attempt to keep everyone happy.

Financial Stress

Overspending on holiday preparations, decorations and gifts.
