Vacations, barbecues, long walks on the beach, lunch in the park, the experience of summer is amazing. The warm sun rays on your skin and the heat of the day, are perfect to go outside to run or play. Water parks, pool side games, and ocean dives all help you to find refreshing relief from the humid summer heat. In this article, we will discuss ways to enjoy the summer season that help to boost your mood.

Benefits of Direct Sunlight

Summer is full of enjoyable times, especially due to the days of increased sunlight. This increased sun provides a vast amount of benefits for your mind and body. Some of the benefits include better sleep quality, stronger bones, lowering blood pressure, reduced inflammation, and healing certain skin conditions. When you are in the sun, you feel better overall. In light of the numerous benefits for your mind and body, go outside and enjoy the sun!

Ways to Enjoy the Sun

protect yourself

Wear sunscreen. Sunscreen is to be worn daily to protect all skin tones from the UV sun rays. 

stay hydrated

Drink plenty of cool water before, during, and after enjoying direct sun exposure.

dress appropriately

Wear light colored and lightweight clothing when in the sun. 

try new things

Look for new activities to enjoy in your community where you can get outside and enjoy the sun. 

practice safety

Keeping cool is imperative when in sunlight. Find shaded places, wear light clothing, and get out of the sun as soon as you feel any signs of exhaustion. 

enjoy yourself

Take some time off from work during the increased sunny days to enjoy yourself, family, and friends.

How the Sun Impacts your Mood

Sunlight is associated with better mental health. Studies show getting more exposure to the sun will significantly improve your state of mind. Exposure to increased sunlight can directly impact your mood and emotional responses. Your skin cells begin to produce Vitamin D when you are in the sun. This nutrient is a primary component that your body needs to help to regulate your mind. Vitamin D allows your body to absorb other essential nutrients for your health and increases your serotonin levels. As a result of the Vitamin D your body produces from direct sunlight, you feel an improved sense of mood and happiness when in the sun.

Become a Sunny Person

Being sunny is a mindset. Your thoughts will become more happy and relaxed when you have a sunny mindset. You can begin to develop this mindset by first, focusing on what is good in your life. Try using a gratitude journal to write down your prayer requests and when the prayers are answered. Use this journal to reflect on the goodness of GOD and as a reference point for your testimony to focus on the good in your life. Next, look for ways to be happy daily. Find new and exciting activities within your local community or vacation destinations where you can enjoy the sun. From visiting an outside museum, rose garden, or ocean attraction, search for things which include increased exposure to direct sunlight. Exploring new adventures to enjoy in the sun will increase your happiness daily. Then, exercise outside in the sun. Go for a walk or jog during the sunrise, if you would like to enjoy the sun with less heat. Last, be wise in the amount of direct sunlight exposure your enjoy, by protecting yourself. Always wear sunscreen and avoid heat exhaustion. Get outside to enjoy the sun this summer and your overall mood will improve.
